Composer Stella Sung takes inspiration from five seminal paintings by Norman Rockwell in her composition Rockwell Reflections. Each movement interprets a different illustration, blending narrative storytelling with orchestral textures.
Sung’s work mirrors the expressive clarity of Rockwell’s visuals—inviting listeners to imagine their own stories while being carried along by lush strings, soaring horns, and intricate orchestral color.
Highlights include:
- “Murder in Mississippi”: A movement of haunting gravity, reflecting history and emotion
- “The Peace Corps”: Uplifting and celebratory, full of hope and vitality
Sung’s compositions have been performed worldwide and she has collaborated with orchestras and soloists including Yo-Yo Ma, Houston Symphony, and Orlando Philharmonic. Her music is a perfect example of how visual art can inspire and shape musical storytelling.
